Human Resources Manager

SUMMARY/KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Part of the site management team and manages all human resource functions in a manufacturing environment.  This position reports to the VP of Operations with dotted line reporting to the VP of Human Resources and is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that support the company's growth and development goals for its workforce.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

 

  • Provide thought, and leadership, and be the catalyst and owner for action regarding human resources initiatives.
  • Plans and directs programs for all human resources areas and controls and monitors the administration of all human resource activities and policies including employment, employee relations, compensation, training and development, benefits administration, and equal employment opportunity. 
  • Responsible for advising management to ensure company compliance with all federal, state and local laws related to employee benefits, compensation, employment and training.
  • Ensure that training and development is effective, relevant and delivered consistently.
  • Direct, support, coach, and counsel all levels of staff.
  • Oversee benefits and compensation administration.
  • Oversee Safety, Environmental and Workers Compensation administration.
    • Trains employees on safety requirements to ensure compliance with government and other regulations, as required.
    • Develops, implements and manages the on-site Safety program.
    • Identifies potential causes for injury and recommends changes in policies and procedures to prevent accidents and illness.
    • Create job hazard assessments, recommend needed changes
    • Lead weekly safety tool box talks with hourly staff
    • Chair monthly safety committee meeting; discuss safety topics, suggest solutions for issues, research options for implementation
    • Maintain air permits and all reporting necessary to remain compliant
  • Ensure effective orientation of new employees.
  • Conduct ongoing market and wage analysis to identify and raise issues regarding equity and competition in the market.
  • Establish and maintain effective forums for involving staff and employee representatives in identifying workplace issues and delivering solutions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Complete work in a timely manner.
  • Undertake self-development activities. Take independent action. Ask for and offer assistance whenever needed.
  • Ability to interact professionally with others; including co-workers, vendors, customers and industry professionals.
  • Problem solving ability to find a solution for or to deal proactively with work-related problems. 
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Office Applications.
  • Professional attitude.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - Masters Degree in Human Resources preferred, Bachelor's degree or significant demonstrated experience. Five years of direct Human Resources experience with safety responsibilities.
