Senior Accountant

SUMMARY

Ensure professional and ethical financial practices and a cohesive finance service offering across Divisions and Subsidiaries that is aligned with business strategy.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare monthly Standard Financial Reporting Package.
  • Review and process month-end balancing and journal entries.
  • General ledger analysis of accounts.
  • Assist in the development of multi-year forecast estimates for job contracts and department expenditures and revenues; review contract performance measures.
  • Develop and maintain budget monitoring models and coordinate production of the formal monitoring report.
  • Maintain credibility for the finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends in order to assist the Controller and CFO in performing their responsibilities.
  • Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the corporation.
  • Enter monthly long-term contract revenue and COGS adjustments.
  • Manage long term contracts cost system.
  • Prepare government reports annual and quarterly reports.
  • Allocate insurance costs to the business units.
  • Analyze workers compensation and health insurance reserves of the business units.
  • Review payroll input documents and post payroll transactions to general ledger.
  • Review and post payment journals and process cash disbursements.
  • Manage incoming capital expenditure requests from business units, submit to appropriate parties for approval, and maintain quarterly and annual capital expenditure reporting.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Effectively guide and develop workgroups
  • Delegate appropriately within and between companies
  • Provide direction and opportunity to workgroups

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical skills in budgeting, cost analysis and month-end close responsibilities, etc.
  • Ability to work with large amounts of data, interpret financial records, detect errors, and prepare financial reports.
  • An ability to plan and manage multiple projects.
  • The successful candidate should have excellent computer (Excel and Word) skills; exceptional problem-solving abilities and good organizational skills.
  • Ability to express ideas effectively orally and in writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High performance in teams and a strong team player.

 

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE  

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • Minimum of four years of progressive experience in finance and accounting.
  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Work experience in a manufacturing or contract work environment preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems preferred.

 

 

SOFTWARE PROFICIENCY  MS Office w/advanced skills in Word and Excel. Experience with commercially available software products

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS Superior verbal and written communication skills

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Strong background

 

REASONING ABILITY   Judgments should reflect sound reasoning and business practicality. Exceptional analytical ability

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS  CPA License preferred but not required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS      General office with an ability to travel.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT   Office environment in a family owned business.
